About Dr. Douglas H. Bartlett
Dr. Bartlett is Professor Emeritus of Marine Microbial Genetics at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego, and a leading expert in extremophilic microbiology and microbial genetics. His research has advanced understanding of how microorganisms adapt to extreme environments, including high pressure, toxic metals, and chemically harsh conditions.
In his advisory role, Dr. Bartlett will support Biolithica’s development of robust microbial systems for the recovery of critical and precious metals from sulfide ores and other challenging materials. His expertise in microbial stress responses, metal tolerance mechanisms, and genetic regulation will contribute to strengthening the performance and environmental resilience of Biolithica’s microbial platforms.
“Doug’s work has fundamentally advanced our understanding of how microbes function under extreme conditions,” said Arness Cordick, Co-founder and Executive of Biolithica Technologies Corp. “His insights will help strengthen the resilience and performance of our microbial systems as we translate foundational science into practical recovery pathways for industry.”
Dr. Bartlett’s appointment complements Biolithica’s ongoing collaborations with leading research institutions, including its participation in Cornell University’s Microbe Atlas Initiative, which focuses on mapping microbe-mineral interactions and the biological pathways influencing mineral weathering and metal mobilization.
