Biolithica Signs Sponsored Research Agreement with Cornell University
Advancing microbe-enabled technologies for critical and precious metals recovery under the Microbe Atlas Initiative.
Vancouver, BC — January 15, 2025 — Biolithica Technologies Corp ("Biolithica"), a company developing microbe-enabled technologies for the recovery of critical and precious metals from primary production, tailings, and low-grade resources, today announced that it has signed a sponsored research agreement with Cornell University.
Under the agreement, Biolithica will participate with Cornell in the University’s Microbe Atlas Initiative, a research program focused on mapping microbe–mineral interactions and the genetic and biochemical pathways that influence mineral weathering and metals mobilization. Biolithica intends to apply these insights to accelerate the discovery and validation of microbial approaches that may improve metal recovery in settings where conventional processing faces cost, impurity, or environmental constraints.
“Cornell’s leadership in microbe–mineral science is a unique engine for discovery,” said Arness Cordick, Founder and Executive of Biolithica Technologies Corp. “This collaboration supports our strategy of converting world-class university research into practical recovery pathways and, ultimately, licensable, royalty-generating process packages for industry partners.”
Cornell collaborates with industry partners through sponsored research mechanisms designed to help translate scientific advances into real-world applications, said Buz Barstow, Cornell University.
Biolithica’s initial efforts under the agreement will focus on identifying and prioritizing metal-bearing streams where microbial solutions may offer the greatest benefit—particularly materials with challenging mineralogy or impurity profiles. The work will also establish early validation workflows using bench-scale assays and real-world samples provided by industry partners.
